Literary Devices Used In This Book

These are  the literary devices used in the book Hole In My Life

He uses foreshadowing a lot in this book to give the readers a sense of what is going to happen in the book.

Dad snapped his finger."These folks zigged when the rest of the world zagged. And once you cross that line, there's no coming back. Mark my words"

Pg. 7

This is a foreshadow of the book because it reveals that Jack is going to "zag" and get in trouble with the law.

He uses a lot of 1970 slang in this book to make it more realistic.

"We'll drive up to Tallahassee and cop from the guys up there. They grow the potent stuff, hydroponically. Non eof that throat-burning yard twigs you cop from hippies which makes you jumpy. The lab stuff is mind blowing, better than Thai stick."

Pg. 46

He is using a lot of slang names for drugs here to make it more life-like and make it sound like he is a teenager again. I beleive it makes the book much better when he uses slang because it makes it more beleivable.

He uses Metaphors to describe things.

"If I had a book, each page would be the size of a Kansas wheat field."

Pg. 43

I believe he uses metaphors to make his point more obvious, and to stress any certain point he would like to make more clear.
